What is IETS
IETS, the Institute for Studies on Labor and Society, is a multi-disciplinary, private, non profit institution established in Rio de Janeiro to develop studies, research, assessments, education, debates and circulation of ideas and information related to poverty, social equity, the reform and modernization of the public sector and the improvement of social policies. Its main areas of activity are

The associate members of IETS are academics, researchers, businessmen, journalists, civil servants and community leaders of different institutions, persuasions and political orientations, who share the concerns with the need to improve the knowledge about the nature, origins and the ways of better dealing with these issues, and to implement appropriate policies.
To achieve its goals, IETS works as a network and meeting place for its associates, and between them and the broader public, through publications, events, meetings, seminars and an active homepage in the Internet; and carries on research, assessment studies, educational activities and technical cooperation projects, with the support and in agreement with non-governmental and governmental institutions. IETS maintains a small permanent staff, and provides support for associates willing to develop activities congenial with its objectives through the use of its facilities. For its activities, IETS depends on voluntary contributions, donations and resources derived from specific projects and grants.
